C is a variable representing the number of nonconformities (defects) in each sample. Usually, the sample size is considered to be one. The control limit of this chart is based on the poison distribution. When the no. of defects per unit can be counted, c chart can be draw. In statistical quality control, the c-chart is used to monitor count-type data, typically total number of nonconformities per unit. It is also occasionally used to monitor the total number of events occurring in a given unit of time. The c-chart differs from the p-chart in that it accounts for the possibility of more then one nonconformity per inspection unit. The p-chart models pass/fail-type inspection only.
